Senior Seminar II-III

Students will prepare the design development phases of a SENIOR THESIS PROJECT (STP) based on research and programming developed in Senior Seminar I.  Students will actively engage in exploring and adopting creative solutions for the design problem established by their research in Senior Seminar I.  Presentation pieces of the solved design problem will be prepared in Senior Seminar II and displayed in a public venue. The Senior Show which will take place in Spring Term will include juried design critiques of the senior thesis project and a reception for jurors and invited guests.

The issue of “college dropouts” has been a societal problem for many decades. College campuses throughout the United States have incorporated different facilities such as student unions, student financial service offices, and OTHER RECREATIONAL AMENITIES to increase retention RATE and reduce the NUMBER of dropouts. It cannot be PROVEN that these traditional services have dramatically reduced the number of student drop outs, perhaps because they are not geared to address some of the core issues associated with the reasons students leave A college or university .

Many neighborhoods and school districts complain about the dangerous and deteriorating property conditions in vacant facilities. Schools, usually located within neighborhood settings, become neglected  by school districts and attract illicit activity among local youth. In many cases, windows are boarded up, plumbing is stripped and playgrounds become filled with trash, weeds, and vandalism. What was once the glue that held communities together, becomes a symbol of neighborhood decline.

The B787-9 Dreamliner is the latest extension to Boeing’s super-efficient 787 family. The new aircraft can fly farther, and with more passengers and more cargo, than the B787-8 - but with the same exceptional environmental performance: 20 per cent less fuel usage and 20 per cent fewer emissions than the aircraft it will replace. The aircraft will feature a full master suite (including master bedroom, master bathroom, and office), bar/kitchen, state room, lounge, guess suites, guest bathrooms, cinema/conference room, and lavatories. Passengers will also benefit from larger windows and stow bins, modern LED lighting, higher humidity and cleaner air, lower cabin pressure and a smoother, quieter ride. Vietnam Airlines will also put to the test to develop in-flight WiFi on its new Boeing 787-9 with desire to bring more convenience to customers.

Research shows that while sustainable resorts are important, it is often at the expense of guest comfort. The merge between luxury and sustainability can be implemented into resort design to create an all-inclusive, luxurious resort designed with the consumer in mind.  Guests can control their own comfort through innovative technology while still allowing resorts to maintain best in class sustainable practices. The user control technology is the link between guest comfort and the sustainable practices that will be upheld by using environmental management programs in order to reduce, reuse and recycle.

Off the grid has been primarily used in homes, but with research and technology, this concept can be use in Tree Top Resort while also integrating other natural aspects into the design. The Tree Top Resort makes use of solar panels, electrically generated equipment, a water filtration system, rainwater harvesting, wind turbines, septic systems and battery storage backups in a tree house style resort that has been taken off the grid.
